What do you mean, shift fork? The shifter is threaded, but the shift knob fits over the threaded portion and is secured very tightly with allen screws. A threaded knob will only go so tight and then bottom out of the threads. You will most likely have a gap unless you use some glue to secure the boot to the knob.
