The engine stiffeners need to come off to get the flywheel plate out (GSR only, I believe). That will give access to the 4 nuts/bolts that you couldn't get to.
The gray sealant at any parts store is identical to Hondabond. I have been using that stuff forever and it works very well. I slathered my oil pan gasket with gray sealant front and back with a knife and as long as the bolts are tightened correctly in a criss cross fashion, it won't leak. Too bad I am still leaking because of an old rear main seal.
