That's HD-DVD maxing out that low. 30GB is a single layer of Blu-ray, and it looks to scale up to 200 without a real problem.

And for $15,000 for a holographic reader, and at $120 a disc, it will be a ways off before we need that.

And Blu-Ray is just as open as HD-DVD, if not moreso. I have no desire for a MS OS to be on my DVD player, and I prefer Sony's use of Java significantly.
