In less than 10 years, Toyota and Honda will be the pre-eminent automobile manufacturers in the United States. No joke. When Toyota brought out Lexus and the LS400 in 1989, giving Lexus its own personality, distinct from Toyota, we all knew then that Toyota was going to leap into the #1 spot.

I think the only thing that has been holding Honda back from contending neck and neck with Toyota is that Acura has been too similar to Honda. They need to give Acura it's own personality and let it flourish all on it's own. By making it's own research facility, they are doing that. And I believe we will see Honda become a stronger, healthier company with much more presence in the next few years.

Not that it isn't already. This just gives Acura a real chance to set their sights right on Lexus.
