Since we're presumably talking about the same problem tranny in the same car, please keep the discussion within one thread. There's no need to open a new discussion topic to cover the same issue.

Here's my take on your situation:

A rebuilt tranny is going to be the most reliable solution, but the expense is an issue if you're only keeping the car for 3 more years.

OTOH, picking up a used transmission from an auto recycler is kind of like playing russian roulette... there's no real guarantee that the used tranny will be any more reliable. EDIT: Re-reading the thread, I noticed that it's a used tranny that's prompted the question.. h:

I'd err on the side of caution and have Cottman rebuild your tranny. (This is assuming, of course, that they do quality work and provide some sort of warranty. I've never heard of these guys before. h: )

Rebuilding your stock transmission will probably be cheaper than a factory re-manufactured transmission and provide a simliar level of durability.
