My hatch used to leak like crazy. I checked the sunroof drain tubes - they were all intact and unclogged. The hatch weatherstripping wasn't ripped, but the taillight gaskets were paperthin. Instead of buying new gaskets (eventually I would have gotten around to replacing them), I just popped the drainplug out of the spare-tire well. Water no longer collected in the well and no longer splashed forward into the cabin while driving.
