well ur friend is ripping you off, all i did was buy the antenna mast off ebay for like 14 bux, aftermarket of course. what happened is that if you can still hear ur motor running that means its good. the plastic piece of the antenna mast is broken thats why it cant go up and down anymore. when you buy ur antenna mast follow the instructions that comes with it. lube it with a petroleum product such as grease... or u can use vasaline. its just that time over time the grease wears out and causes the plastic teeth on the mast to crack and break.
