I would recommend replacing the entire axle with a remanufactured axle. It'll cost you about $60-75 after returning your broken one. You won't have to mess with disassembly of the joint, packing the boot, etc.

You might find some good DIY write up on the board, but here's the basics:

Remove wheel, unstake and remove axle nut, release lower ball joint, swing the spindle outward so the axle has room to come out, might have to hammer the axle out of the hub, use a large flathead or prybar to remove the axle from the tranny.

To put the new one in, slide it into the tranny, making sure it's all the way in and the ring clip is secure. then swing the spindle back out to let the axle slide into the spindle. Once axle is in, put on the new axle nut, reattach the LBJ, torque to spec, stake the axle nut.
