The white mark on the crank pulley is TDC, the red mark is 12(for a Y8), the other marks are +/- 2, so they're 10 and 14. Make sure when you're lining up the marks you're using the pointers on the block like the sight on a gun. First, look at the upper pointer, which should be like an upside-down notched V, then sight down to the lower pointer, which is like a V pointing out from the block. Make sure you line both pointers up, and then adjust the distributer until the marking on the crank pulley lines up with the lower "V" pointer on the block.
