There is no anonymity with bittorrent, your identified by your IP while your connected to the tracker and some clients can log all the connections that are made. I don't know what capabilities the tracker itself has but it's probably very similar in terms of what data about you it can collect. Fortunately, nobody really cares right now but it would not be hard to track if they wanted to. Right now, the RIAA and MPAA are going after the torrent sites themselves and shutting them down but I'm sure they will eventually go after individual users as well.
I'm surprised there actually isn't more pushback against this from the ISP's themselves. If you consider that most homes only use their internet connection a few hours a day and barely use their full bandwidth even then, someone who's constantly using BT would be using probably 75% to 100% of their upstream connection all the time. They have to be noticing that?
ISP's arent stupid why do you think everyone has DSL/Cable internet connection, they use it download music/movies/games...Thats why everyone is steering away from the 56k providers because they know that it will take forever to download a 3 min song. After Napster went down there were tons of of P2P progs....Kazaa, Limewire, Bearshare, E-Donkey, not to mention the one program that runs basically all of the underground piracy, MIRC...From what ive noticed they are starting to shut down most of the P2P servers cause i cant find shit anymore on Limewire...Any teenager in the world as of this moment has downloaded at least one song before.. its a known fact that everyone and their mom knows how to use a P2P program and where to find one...Plus how much money do artists need shit a person can live on 50k a year, but they make like millions of dollars on songs.. I think downloading a song once in a while is no crime..plus you can never find a full album anyways..so basically your downloading the song thats on every single radio station cost to cost.. its just like when you were a kid and heard a song on the Radio....what did you do? Shit you went and grabbed your tape deck turned it to that Radio Station and hit record...I bet if they scanned anyones computer more than 50% of the songs on their machine will be a song that was on Billboards Top 100 for the past years.
Most artists owe the P2P programs everything they have..What about 50 cent...If you werent living in New York at the time no one knew who he was...I first heard him when my friend bootlegged some songs that 50 redid and everybody jumped on the bandwagon...and im sure there are plenty of others who have been made famous from someone downloading one of there songs..The governments just getting pissed because they cant tax people downloading songs...ITS ALL ABOUT MONEY!!!!
