ok, this is how I'm thinking it will work:
First we finalize the character. It looks like so far you guys like the alien. A few have mentioned placing HAN on his character somewhere. I thought of this too. I'll see what I can come up with (my brother actually designed that guy).
I agree with the comments above that the character should be 8-12 inches tall, so that he's easy to spot in a large environment. i think it will also be funnier.
i want it to be as cheap/easy as possible to mail this guy around, so once we decide on a character, i will print him out to the desired size, and see what the costs runs for an adequately sized envelope. i think via USPS, it shouldn't make a difference where in the country it will run. going to canada? we'll think about that afterwards.
i want to laminate this guy on some kind of thick board, like what Will posted above, but it will be light and thin enough for the envelope. as i've already mentioned, it will be coated somehow so that it can be cleaned without damaging it, for you germaphobes.
ok, so, once all that is settled and decided, it will start like this.
1. i will take my set of pictures and post them up in the official "flat stanley" thread.
2. after this, or even leading into this, we will compile the complete list of
serious participants.
b. as the gallery progresses, members are welcome join the participant list.
3. once my picture set is up, and we have a stable list of participants, i will choose then next recipient, PM him for his/her address, and i will mail the character to them.
b. i will mark myself and that person off the list.
4. once that person receives the character, they will go ahead and take the pictures, and post them up.
5. when their picture set is complete, they will choose the next recipient from the list, PM them for their address, and mail it on.
b. at each step of the way, we'll post the next recepient, and mark them off the participant list.
the idea is that we don't want the character to go back to the same person twice.
6. we will loop through steps 4-5b, until we've gone through the entire participant list. at that point, we can decide what to do with the character.
there will be backup characters, in case there is a mishap, and the one is circulation is destroyed. i hope not. i like the idea of the one guy having travelled everywhere himself.
the rules for photos are pretty straightforward:
1. do not subject the character to anything vulgar, disgusting, offensive, or anything of the like. remember, this is in good fun!
2. the character must be clear and in focus in all pictures.
3. photos can be color, b&w, whatever, just as long as there's something else in the picture along with the character.
4. please mail him on! if you don't think you have the time/energy/desire to take your picture set, even though you were originally very serious about it, just mail him on!
5. be creative! i expect some rather hilarious pictures to come out of this.
and, that's what i got. thoughts/comments/feedback?
