Default Video card gurus, help me...

Hey folks, I've been looking at monitors just for my own personal curiosity. My Sony laptop has a 1.6:1 aspect ratio screen (slightly more height:width than a 16:9 HDTV) and there's a few 20" 1.6:1 LCD's out there. They all have a resolution of 1680x1050. Now, I've found graphics cards that support a 1.6:1 aspect ratio, but at a resolution of 1920x1200 (btw, 1080i HDTV is 1920x1080). Now, if a card can do a 1.6:1 aspect ratio at 1920x1200, should it also be able to do it at 1680x1050? And would this be hooked up using a DVI or VGA plug? Thank you oh so much, because I have no idea how this would work.
