Its difficult to suggest ideas with this issue, for me at least.. First of all, if your CEL (check engine light) comes on, you need to find out what codes its throwing. I believe you have a blinking light on/in your ecu to detect the codes. Here is a guide I used previously used to check the codes and to read them:
