point is, racism is alive and going strong, and will continue to go on as long as people from different regions of the earth identify themselves under kingdoms of different kings on this fleeting planet we call earth. it's so sad to see. only one man is ever capable of being a savior and bringing unification among all men and women.
I didn't want to bring it up, but yes, that is a strong argument.

Since this is an unfortunate fact of life, it can be eliminated from the work environment. Last thing I wanna do is go to work and hear someone using any racist term regardless of how it is meant.

I am not going to lie I have probably used a lot more derogatory terms than I care to list. I am not racist though and admittedly they were used in ignorance. That is al it is in the end is ignorance and xenophobia, and the more you can isolate and make a person or race to be less human the easier it is to hate a group, these terms help to accomplish this and it works a little bit at a time.

If a person hears the term enough then when it comes down to it you can simply say, "oh it's ok it's just one of those (insert racist term) they don't count".
I agree.

let me clarify WHY i started w/ that comment...

ive only been here for about half a year. ive made friends, but not the ones that made the comment and laughed. theyre actually african american, but that shouldnt matter. im more surprised b/c it was said in a PROfessional workplace, not in HS, college, in a bar or w/ just friends. plus i was taken aback b/c they know who i am and that im korean and that im in the next cube down. so it just made me wonder 'hey, do they realize that theyre at work?'. i dont care that they made the joke cuz i have tough skin. like a lot of you guys said, youve been teased or had crap happen to you regardless of who you are. i just learned to roll w/ the punches.

so yeah, thats why it surprised me, and im thinkin that if i were anyone else, like nightshade said i couldve gone to my supervisor and caused a ruckus. on THEIR behalf i just hope they watch themselves or someone else might make things difficult for them.
In that context, it is certainly clear that being offensive wasn't an issue.
