Two men in Seminole County, Fla., were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of street racing when a vehicle hit and critically injured a woman on a sidewalk this week.
Investigators said Maria De La Cruz, 55, was struck by a car while walking near state Road 434 and Chapman Road on the south end of Oviedo.
Witnesses said two cars, a red Ford Mustang and a Nissan, were racing each other when the Mustang lost control, jumped a curb and slammed into the woman standing on a sidewalk.
Police determined that Bryan Bell, 20, was driving the Mustang and Justin Culmo, 21, was driving the other vehicle.
After an investigation, Oviedo police arrested Bell and Culmo.
Bell was charged with reckless driving with great bodily injury, racing on a highway and possession of marijuana.
Culmo was charged with reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, racing on a highway and failure to immediately report an accident.
Cruz remains hospitalized in stable condition at Orlando Regional Medical Center.
