The difficulty depressing the clutch just screams master cylinder (or possibly slave) cylinder failure. Or the pressure plate popped a spring.
This is a little off topic but could a poorly shimmed FD ring gear cause a huge amount of transmission free play that is getting worse and makes the car drive like a jerky piece of shit? I mean it's like a third turn when the car is on the lift. Very annoying.
