Earlier in the week the weather man predicted we were going to get 5 to 9 inches of snow, starting today (thursday) afternoon, continuing through the evening. The snow came a little early, started around 10 last night and snowed for a few hours, then stopped. Got about 3-5 inches from that. It started snowing again around i dunno, 8ish. We're now going to get another 6 to 11 inches through tonight.
Around 10 or so, my boss was talking about how people could go home if they wanted but he hadn't got it approved as time off yet. 15 or so minutes more of calling around to corporate and whatnot, and he was like, "ok all of you get the hell out of here." Before I could even finish up what I was doing most of the people left, and then had managed to get their cars stuck somewhere and had called back to the office for help.
When I left, there was like 6 or 7 inches on the ground in the parking lot. It was a bitch and a half getting out of it, even with my snow tires, but once I got on the road it was (relatively) smooth sailing. Took a while though. I couldn't see shit because it's a whiteout, and it's REALLY a whiteout. It's also a winter storm warning, and a snow emergency. Yup, we've got all the official classifications.
I got back to my apartment and the side streets downtown hadn't been plowed yet. I managed to get through it to my driveway, but the driveway is kinda steep and hadn't been plowed. I got stuck, but luckily since I live downtown, a coupla student type folks came and helped mush my car while I tried to get it up the driveway. Now I'm home and just chillin. I don't wanna drive anywhere and if I need anything, I can go walk to it. With any luck this mess should be cleaned up enough to make it back to the office.
This is the view from my balcony.
