Politics asside, nuclear power is the cheapest, cleanest, and most reliable way to produce power.
The solar idea might work in Arizona where currently electricity is generated from Hoover Dam and costs through the roof when its 120 degrees and your A/C is on all day and night in July. There, you also have the sun out for 340 days/year. But for most climates, I just don't think solar power makes much sense.
