At least with the exhaust system it's at the tail end (no pun intended) of the exhaust flow and are able to see gains simply based on increased flow from the stock exhaust unit.
Thats exactly how it works on the V8 cars I'm used to working on so I'm puzzled by all this header before exhaust stuff and its not just on the message boards its in a couple magazines too...
