You can put any size wheel you want granted the wheel well would allow it. As for lowering the car... Not really necessary, but I do find adding a bigger wheel/tire setup looks kinda funny without a drop.

If you want to add a larger wheel/tire setup than stock but still want to have a near stock ride characteristics, I'd recommend a 16x7" wheel with a +40mm offset mated with 205/45/16 tires.
