Actually, a vtec controller can hurt performance on stock engines. The vtec x-over point on stock b16s are optimized at 5k rpms. Lowering that x-over pt would not do anything for your torque curve, it would actually hurt it more than anything else.
If you're talking about modified engines, well that's a different story...
