you know, if the paint is still good, even if the clearcoat is toast, you might be able to save the paint. good detail shops can clay it and buff it, you'd be surprised how far it will come back. then seal it up with a good hard coat of wax (meguiar's carnauba) and you're good to go.
you kno, thats funny you said that. I work in a detail shop and once I got my car I did exactly that. the clear coat was gone so I clay/buffed/waxed it and the paint looks great. Like I said before, Ill post pics, you'll be able to see.
