i think one of the only bands i like just as much if not more after a major record label picked em up was atreyu....i mean they went to the high school up the street from mine, i've gotten drunk w/ them... but they've gotten better with time... it's nice

Anyways I don't think it is a matter of the bands actually "poppifying" their music so much as it is the bands staying in the same style with no progression in style. What happens is the record companies see that this "sound" is hot shit and sells records. So from this point on they are out scouring clubs looking for the same sound or the next "band x" to cash in on.

Add to that every band likes to emulate the band that influenced them most and tend to carry a similiar sound. So instead of the original band selling out they just get emulated to the point where their sound becomes dated and played out.
