Ford's upcoming SUV name is MKX which is very similar in name to the MDX - Honda's points are it is so close in name to create confusion among customers who are considering the MDX.
TORRANCE, Calif. — Honda has filed a suit against the Ford Motor Company in federal court in California in an attempt to prevent Ford from giving the name "MKX" to its Lincoln SUV. Honda claims there is a danger of product confusion between the MKX and its own MDX. The MKX is intended to go on sale later this year.
An Acura spokesman told the Detroit News that he believes the case will be settled out of court — much like Nissan's trademark infringement lawsuit against Audi for using the letter "Q" in its vehicle names.
What this means to you: Don't even think about naming your car Web site "Edwunds.com." Unless your name is Edwunds. Then you might have a case.
