I posted this in the civic forums also, but I guess it truthfully belongs here.
Well guys, after reading a shitload and finding Mista Bone's old website about D series hybrid transmissions I decided to embark on a little side project to get me by until I finish the K swap, which is still a couple months out.
First off, I have a 93 cx hatch that is lighter than hell. It is equipped with a 96 d16y7 non vtec. It has a z6 intake manifold and tb, and B series intake arm. I'm running a p06 stock map, which is not correct for my d16y7, but it does fine. I think there is more power to be found with tuning, but fuck tuning, its a D series.
This motor is my little bitch until the K swap is done and I rape the shit outta it daily, but my long ass cx gearing was driving me nuts. I have about 5 D series trannys laying around from all the swaps I've done in the last year or so, some fucked up some in good shape.
Well I got bored after class friday and said fuck it, I'm gonna build myself a hybrid trans.
So first off, 3pm, start pulling transmission. 4pm got trans out.
So I start tearing apart all the old trans'
and then I clean up a B000 case for the new trans
then I put it together and throw it in the car. Finished by 9pm yo
and then today I go test drive and GOD DAMN, this thing is a badass D series.
This has to be the quickest NA D I've ever been in or driven for sure, and its non vtec lol.
For the trans I used d16z6 1st through 3rd, dohc ZC 4th, and my old 5th for the gas mileage. I also used the 4.250 final drive from the SI trans.
Here is a video, pardon the quality but its hard to shift and camera at the same time. Keep in mind guys, that I'm at 6200ft elevation, that adds a good 1.0 to 1.5 seconds to our quarter mile times, if not more, so be nice. This car is most definately 100% postively faster than my b18b1 swapped eh3. obviously my weight is the big difference here but I highly highly recommend this transmission stuff to everyone who plans on keeping a D. Its by far the best thing you can do for power outside of boost or nitrous.
