Was definitley the battery, because it had died one morning on me, and I assumed I left a dome light on or something, charged it, and made it all the way to work and back fine, then it wouldn't hold a charge, etc etc...
have had my new battery in for a few days and i'm loving it, because she doesn't have the slightest hesitance to start up.
