Pre '92 means before '92, as in '91 and older.

VTEC (Variable valve Timing and lift Electronic Control) engines use a simple hydrolic system to switch to a second set of more aggresive cam lobes at high RPM's to produce higher top-end power while keeping low-end drivability.
