It sounds like I hurt your feelings by telling you that I got a degree in Mechanical Engineering. The problem in this post is merely a high school physics question so someone like you and me should know more than enough to answer the question. that was simply my point and i was trying to help. Intelligence is still required to understand why the thing will take off. What I said is that a degree has nothing to do with intelligence, so it very unnecessary for you to go off about how now you're going to get your masters and how you teach and all that. It is quite meaningless to me how many degrees you hold and how many people you teach and how much they pay you for it. With all due respect, as you have shown it does not contribute to obtaining the answer. I'm not saying you're not smart, I'm just saying that holding a degree does not automatically make you so.

You think the plane won't take off because you assume it will remain stationary. Wrong assumption. Just because the conveyor is matching the speed of the plane doesn't mean it's keeping it from moving. The plane is freewheeling on the runway, and the conveyor has about as much effect on it as it would on a hovercraft for example...pretty much none.

In fact, according to the riddle the airplane HAS to be moving in order for the conveyor to move the other way.

Anyways, why do people want this thread locked? If it annoys them... perhaps they just shouldn't click on it?
