I would fight the mechanic for wrongful service and if anything involve the BBB (Better Business Bureau)...or at least threaten that you will contact them and get them involved...you might get your repair fixed no charge. A Honda dealer wont merit someone elses work unlesss you have a honda warranty still, which for a 96 is impossible to still have a warranty.
