This is a pretty cool thread, I gotta agree with Blackbacca, ina very intellectual sense preserving the lives of those "not fit" is detrimental to our entire species. And someone raised the point that genetic defects are "nto curable" but if those who had them couldn't reporduce they'd be effectivley "cured" for the population as a whole.

Of course when it comes to my family, or friends, the species can go fuck tiself and I'ma look out for mine.

I guess that's what it really comes down to, what's best for the species won't happen when it's not what's immediatley best for the individuals.


I wouldn't worry about natural selection being defeated by humans though, we're just changing how it will work, instead of being a slow, constant process we are dealying it, and when it finally comes it will be BIG. Specifically, vaccinations are ruining our immunity as a species (in the 1st world countries) while the germs that they fight against face extremelty harsh conditions and are selected agianst very precisly. Each germ generation (which is 20 minutes long) is getting exponentially tougher while humans (20 year generaton) are gettng weaker. Pretty soon (some estiamte five years) we'll reach a breaking point and have a major epidemic of super-germs versus weak ass 1st world country livers. See you guys there, I'll be the one trading in my 401 K for heroin.
