You'd be lucky to get a knee that works ... but if it did, it was purely because that was a transformation point. G1 is terrific because that's what I grew up with ... but remove the nostalgia, Cybertron is better.
I was just looking at some of the other toys I collect and decided to revisit this issue. The most posable transforming toy I have are the 1/48 scale Yamato Macross figures. As far as toys go, those are so much cooler than TFs, though they don't have as much variety.
