When you say that there is a spring loaded piece in the switch assembly, I'll assume that you are talking about the BLINKER switch. I can see that part. It pops out when you actuate the turn signal, and SOMETHING is supposed to trip it back when the steering wheel is rotated.

My question is: What is in the steering column that is supposed to trip this switch?
