That happened in my physics class in HS. The teacher in my class had an electronic instrument that could play sounds of any frequency. We were discussing octaves and tuning forks, etc, and stuff. He hit the knob on the instrument when we were done, and everybody could hear a very high pitched noise coming out of it. We told him, and he kept saying "no, i just turned it off"
