I don't think people are arguing that the plane will not take off if it's stationary. Obviously, it will not take off if it's not moving. What they are saying is that the plane does not rely on friction between the wheels and the runway to move forward, therefore it will move forward under thrust regardless of what's under it's wheels and it will take off. It does make some amount of sense to me, but since I'm a civil engineer, not a aerospace or mechanical engineer, I cannot offer any sort of experienced opinion on the matter.
