annoying Toyota factory quirk on the MR2 turbo
So, the 93 MR2 turbo ECU was designed to monitor air temperatures between 33 and 133ºF and adjust wastegate actuation and timing accordingly. now that temperatures have dipped below freezing as daily highs my car will now only run at 4-5 PSI max. However, last night on my way home it was cold enough to open my wastegate at 1.5 PSI! There is a sensor I can pull called a T/VSV that will disable this feature, however, I will need a boost controller first.
Several MR2 gearheads say that they didn't pull theirs and left it. However some are arguing that it would be safe because the knock sensor would retard timing if necessary...
:crazyr: i don't know what to do. the car feels like a dog in sub-freezing temps.
