pretty sure you let it warm up all the way, Jump the check engine light wires, Hook up timing light and adjust so that the red mark on the pulley is timed (there are four marks and three are close together, the red one is the middle of those three). That is what I remeber about timing my '92 D15Z1 in my VX Hatch.
