Does the CEL light stay on when you're jumping the connector? Usually it will go off, but with the connector jumped, it will stay lit. If you've got codes stored, then the MIL will start flashing to let you know what code it is. If there is a problem with the SRS, that light will flash too. My SRS light is on all the time, and when I jump that connector to check a CEL, the SRS light flashes too.
I don't have any SRS problems that would cause the light, unless I need to be buckled in to check the codes. The CEL just stays solid.
Its the same jumper to check CEL and set the timing. The connector you should be jumping is a little one that isn't connected to anything, but is generally tucked into a protector. Its up by the computer, and there are only two wires running into the connector.
That would kinda explain something today. I went to start the car with the jumper in place and the time was so advance that i could hear it backfiring out of the intake. I thought it was my chip skewing the memory.
