The ring isnt going to shelter us, feed us etc... from my point of view.
Smart guy. If she loves you, she will love the ring. If not, then maybe she's a golddigger who may be with you for questionable reasons.
It's just a material thing anyway and you can always get a bigger ring later when you're not worrying about catching up to housing prices.
