Sorry to revive and old thread but, had to put my two pesos in too it. I’m Filipino, born there but live in CA for about 99% of my life, and like any other race you have the good the bad and the ugly. Generally most Filipinos are very family oriented, for example during the holidays we have any where from 25-30 people at whoever’s house we are having that holiday at. A couple years ago for my Grandma 80th B-day we had about 40-50 family members and additional 200 close friends that my parents and aunt’s uncles grew up with. From what I recall Filipinos are decedents of Spanish and Asian (not sure if it is Chinese, Japanese, or other nationality) ancestors, this can explain why tagalong and Visaya (SP??) are similar to the Spanish language. The girls in the spa looked kinda FOBish. I did not know FLIP was a derogatory term, my Filipino Friends, and non-Filipino friends would refer to each other with that term and no one took offense to it. It might have just been us. I always told people FLIP stood for Friendly Loving Island Person.
