You can still work out, but you have to really watch the machines you're on. Most of them will have a diagram of the body and what areas it should effect.
Don't hop on a bench press machine and go for it all. Get on the machine, add some weight, and focus on your form. If you're all over the bench grunting and squirming, you'll really hurt yourself.
