I think the dealer likes $$$ and they make more if you do it more often I think. I'd like to hear the opinion of a Honda technician.
I'd follow the recommended intervals from Honda, but I would do the first change sooner like others have said because you might have extra manufacturing material in the fluid...but I'm not sure how Honda manufactures the gears and if they pressure wash them to remove extra material. I'd imagine they do and are quite anal about it at this point.
