I've had it happen one too many times. I realized I can't depend on another person or group to make me happy. The idea of using someone to balance your level of happiness isn't very logical.
I don't have many friends apart from my girlfriend and 3 or 4 others ... and I don't have a single complaint in the world.
As Hobbesian as all that sounds, I agree.
I think it's important to have friends. However it's unwise to overly invest in them, psychologically or financially.
Co-dependency - in any form - is the harbinger of disappointment.
Self-fufillment is the bedrock of tranquility.

Oh, and to answer the question... yeah, I think I finally have found my calling. Endowed with the gift of gab, my contribution is to inform and entertain with narrative, investigation and when appropriate, subjective opinion.
