never pass things to another person chopsticks-to-chopsticks. if you're passing something to someone else (like a piece of fish, etc), put it on their plate or offer your plate to them.

amen! sushi in america is nothing compared to what you can get in japan.. and i think you're right, you're supposed to dip the fish or whatever is on top in the soy sauce. this is purely to enhance the flavor. the soy sauce is supposed to flavor the main ingredient, not the rice. i don't think it's an etiquette issue.

that's not always true. i guess i could be wrong about this, but there are some that are meant to be savored and not just devoured in one chomp. edit: but you are never supposed to put down a half-eaten piece of anything.

as mentioned, there i don't think there is really a right or wrong way to eat it. when i was i japan, tho, the restraunt owners did tell me to just use my hands for some of em.
