The 1996, original homologation of the DC2 ITR was Japan-only. Very few of them even made it to the peripheral markets like Malaysia.
1997 was the model year that they had to start exporting them, with the improvements, in order to meet FIA and SCCA standards for racing in North America and elsewhere.
