I think this is silly. Since ANY turbo car is only as good as its engineering, I think the foundation of your argument is condescending on his ability to put a car together, and it seems insulting based on that because you're in TX, don't know him, and haven't seen his car. At least that's the way I see it. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Most people will buy a kit and take the easy way out, but they won't learn nearly as much about forced induction as someone who puts it together themselves. At least he'll learn more than anyone that forked out $ for a kit. I have more respect for budget racers than I do for someone that paid several times more for the same end result. Those are the guys that actually know their shit. They just don't have trendy engine bays full of overpriced fashion accessories. You really don't need money to go fast.
Let him learn what he needs to about airflow + fuel control and stop hating just because he didn't buy some carbon copy kit that everybody already has. What are you afraid of if he gets it right, anyway?
