your right they are the most importent parts of the turbo set up but they are also the easiest to inspect. A manifold is easily replaced, a turbo easily rebuilt, and another 1g bov is only 30 bucks away. I believe it is you who is confusing things with this matter. The idea of a homemade or "junkyard" turbo kit to get the best bang for the buck. Your sole aim isnt to get "13.5 or faster 1/4" its to get faster for less. I may not be able to run mid 13s or lower, but i WILL be considerbly faster then a stock Del Sol Si, and i didnt spend anywhere near as much as a nice peak boost kit would have set me back, Im boosted, ive made no claim to being the fastest car in the world, but I will say that if your looking to get boosted for less money, building your own kit will ALWAYS be the best way
