Hyundai aims to be safest car in every segment it competes in
Hyundai Motor is in the process of equipping the vehicles in its U.S. lineup with more standard safety features, with the idea of being the safety leader in every segment in which it competes.
The all-new 2006 Azera sedan, which arrives this fall as the successor to the XG350, will feature standard electronic stability program, as does the 2006 Sonata. But the Azera will add side airbags for rear-seat passengers, giving it a total of eight standard airbags, according to AutoTech Daily. The Azera also gets anti-whiplash active front head restraints and brighter LED taillamps.
The redesigned 2007 Santa Fe, which goes into production next year at Hyundai's Alabama plant, also will get an impressive roster of standard safety features, including stability control, front-seat side airbags, side air curtains for all three rows and active front head restraints. The same feature package is earmarked for the new 2007 Entourage, Hyundai's first minivan in the U.S.
Even the company's small cars will become safer. The redesigned 2006 Accent will feature standard antilock brakes and six airbags, as will the redesigned 2007 Elantra, according to the publication.
