Body roll and body lean are two entirely different beasts. If you're on a stock suspension, your weak spot is the shocks and springs, not the sway and strut bars. A good step up from stock, though, is to get ITR suspension parts.
And if you drive really agressively, how could you not like the feel of a coilover suspension? What suspension did your friend have?
