I had a Generic intake on my last Accord which was 6th gen, Now I have a K&N typhoon on my 7th gen. The only difference I felt is the Sound, The K&N sounds rough at High RPMs but sounds good at Lows.
I decided to paint the Pipe and I did 3 thick coatings of paint and now People ask me if I have a turbo. It sounds heavier and bolder after I painted it.
There is ofcourse a difference between the Generic and Branded intakes we cannot deny but its just a little bit, 2 maybe be 3 horsies.
Rule of the thumb! Generics are basicaly Replicas of the Original or Branded
