i would never buy a pre assembled kit. piecing a kit together is the way to go. u get toi haev everyuthing you want and its cheaper. people think its difficult to piece together a kit, it isnt. in short, you could build a turbo kit for less then a grand. its not gonna make huge power, but it will be a hell of alot faster then stock, so keep that in mind.
i built a turbo kit for my d-series, and its fun. right now im boosting 10 pounds and its deffinitely fun. but, i want more. i was gonna build the d with forged internals, but i know sooner or later i would hit a wall, so im gonna sell the turbo, manifold, injectors and hopefully the motor and transmission so i can get a b series and boost that. when i get more money, ill throw in tuner tioys rods, wiseco pistons, 1000cc injectors and probably TIG in a golden eagle block guard. if i get bored with that, i can always get a bigger turbo and have the block sleeeved and maybe even spray some nitrous.
with a d, it takes alot to make power, its fun and great if ur on a budget, but i dotn have to many responsibilities right now. college is payed for, and im commuting, so my money is divided amongst my car, gf, and any lil things here and there.
thew highest i have ever seen out of a d series was 574whp, which is absolutely insane, but it had to run alot of boost and had been sleeved. ive seen dynos of b series motors putting out 500+whp with just a block guard.
if your gonna go all motor, get somethign worth while, an all motor d is just retarded. peopel have built all motor h22's and with a stock bottom end run in thwe 11's, they just build the head and run some crazy intake setups.ITB's, big plenums, etc
